The Red Bull X Fighters returned to Madrid this week to a capacity audience of 25,000 in the famous Plaza Las Ventas bullring.  The crowd all cheering on local hero Dany Torres as he defended his 2009 victory at the Madrid venue.  Thursday evening saw the qualifiers with wild card entries, the main event being on Friday.

Robbie Maddison Jumps the Corinth Canal

On the 10th of April 2010 Robbie Maddison took on one of the greatest challenges of his life.  The jump over the Corinth Canal in Greece would see Maddison jump 85m over the canal which is itself 80m deep, missing the landing was not an option.

The challenge was hampered by the approach which would take him over a variety of surfaces as he sped up to 125kmph on his Honda 500cc motorcrosser.  The daredevil said the approach to the ramp - across grass, concrete, wood, asphalt and carpet - was extremely difficult, but that he also had to conquer his fear.

Paying Traffic Fines Online

In May 2009 the DGT (Direccion General de Trafico) introduced an online payment method for traffic offences.  This simplifies the current process of having to visit a post office, your local branch of Banco de Santander or Trafico office.

It is possible to receive a reduction of 30% for the majority of traffic offences if the fine is paid within 30 days of issue, this is also the case with the electronic system which automatically recalculates the payment.

Spanish Motorcycle Scrapage Scheme

The motocycle scrapage scheme introduced in Spain in July 2009 will run until June 2010.  The scheme is similar to that introduced in Italy and covers two wheelers up to 9,500€ in value.

The sales of motorcycles in Spain have been one of the greatest markets harmed by the recession. Sales in 2009 fell 40.2% compared to those of 2008.

Ducati Launch 200mph Ice Racer

During a moment of madness someone at Ducati thaught studded tyres would be a suitable option for there Motogp bike maybe for use at a Swedish round of the championship.   At the 2008 season launch at Madonna Di Campiglio, Vittoriano Guareschi rode the outgoing GP7 around an ice rink on studded tyres to the amazement of the crowd.
